Rostov Vodokanal: the compensating pressure regulator set up at the water pipe-line in the city center reduces pipe leak index at 15%

The compensating pressure regulator SD 10- 800 set up at Pushkinskiy water pipeline of second stage water pumping station №1 by OJSC “PO Vodokanal” of the city of Rostov-on-Don has reduce the failure index at 15% within the distribution network of the catchment area. The purchase of this recent development implemented by Vodokanal with all the expenses for construction and installation works is 4, 850,000 RUB.

The fact the failure index cut down happened due to the functioning ability of the regulator to damp the hydraulic surge that may occur at the pipe line when running or shutting down any pumping facilities as well as black outs. The energy of surges and pressure undershoots is dissipated when undergoes interiors of the regulator. The pressure damping procedure and vibrancies followed are caused by the elastic shock-absorbing influence on the water circulating in the pipeline.

The hydraulic surges caused the excess pressure and led to the increasing number of failures at the network, especially worn-out and ancient ones located at the city center. The compensating pressure regulator has reduced the peak value of possible surges as well as the pressure roughness, vibrancies and resonant events.

“The compensating pressure regulator was set up in May 2011. Consequently, it reduced the failure index at 15% in comparing the same time period last year. We expect the index cut down gradually and reach the index of 30% and more. The economic effect after setting up this regulator as we expect will consist 2,000,000 RUB per year due to the reduction of expenses for failure remedies”, said the head of the production and technical department of OJSC “PO Vodokanal” Alexander Zharov.
